Poem about Marriage

How will I know?

That I'm suppose to be with you for the rest of my life?

That you were made for me

And I was made for you

Will I be able to know right away?

When our eyes catch each others for the first time

Or when my lips touch yours

Will you give me butterflies every time were together

Hold me when times get hard

Wipe away every tear from my eyes

Even though you may have caused them

Tell me I'm beautiful with no makeup

Forgive me of my past

Love me for my insecurities

Stick up for me against all odds

Have the courage to ask me those 4 words

That could make or break us

And when I'm walking down the isle knowing in your heart

That I'm the one

The one your pledging your life to

The one you'll be with until the day you die

How do I know your sincere?

That your not like all the others?

How Will

I

Know?
The quote I chose that really stuck out for me was in chapter 17. "Did you ever get fed up? I said. "I mean did you ever get scared that everything was going to go lousy unless you did something? (Salinger 130) In this chapter he is talking to Sally and they got done ice skating. He is just talking to Sally and out of the blue he just says this line. After he says this to Sally he says, "I mean do you like school, and all that stuff." I think this quote means that Holden is sad about where he is in his life. He doesn't want to go along with society but he still doesn't like where he is. I also think he is just so fed up with his life so much that he just is over life in general. You can tell this because of many things he does like getting a prostitute, calling Sally, and calling Luce.I think that this quote is important to the whole book because Holden is staring to realize that what he is doing with his life is not ok. He is realizing that there is maybe more to this life then what he though. He still doesn't want to go along with anything that society has to say, but is realizing he doesn't like what he is doing. I think this quote could have something to do with the fact that Holden is going home, a few chapters later. He really misses his family amd needs to see them soon.
